# Date Created on Connected Users is older than the first integration connection

> Date Created records when Paragon first saw a user, not when they connected an integration.

Breadcrumb

If **Date Created** on the Connected Users list looks months earlier than when the user connected an integration, the date is probably right. It records when Paragon first heard from that user, not when they connected Salesforce, HubSpot, or any other app.

Jump to [What the two dates mean](#what-the-two-dates-mean).

## Symptoms

* You know a user connected an integration recently.
* The Connected Users list shows **Date Created** weeks or months earlier.
* It can look like every row is "wrong," so the dashboard seems broken.
* Billing or usage questions often come with it: "have we been charged for this user since that older date?"

## Cause

Paragon creates a user record the first time your application talks to Paragon for that person. That usually happens when your app calls `paragon.authenticate(...)`, or when it sends a REST request with their user token. The [Connect SDK](https://docs.useparagon.com/getting-started/installing-the-connect-sdk.md) is meant to authenticate at the start of the user's session, so this often happens the first time they use your product after you shipped Paragon, not the first time they click **Connect** on an integration.

That record can sit with no integrations at all. Those users are hidden on the default Connected Users list. They appear once they connect an integration, still carrying the original **Date Created**.

A billed [Connected User](https://docs.useparagon.com/billing/connected-users.md) is a user ID that has connected **at least one** integration. Creating the record on authenticate does not, by itself, count against that limit.

## What the two dates mean

| What you are looking at | What it is | Where to see it |
| - | - | - |
| **Date Created** | When Paragon first created this user (first authenticate or REST call) | The Connected Users list |
| Integration connected | When this user connected a specific app account | The user's profile: open the user, open the integration, open the **account** dropdown |
| Billed Connected User | The user has at least one integration connected | Counts in the header of the Connected Users dashboard |

The list can only show one date per user. If they later connect a second integration, **Date Created** still cannot be "the connection date," because there would be two.

## Fix

Nothing is out of sync. Use the date that matches the question you actually have.

**When was this person first set up in Paragon?** Use **Date Created** on the list.

**When did they connect this integration?** Open **Connected Users**, select the user, open the integration panel, then open the **account** dropdown. That is the connection for that app. If the user has more than one account for the same integration (multi-account), each account is listed there.

**Were they on the billed count before they connected anything?** No. Users with no integrations do not count. You can still find those records: on Connected Users, filter **Integrations Enabled > No Integrations**.

If **Date Created** is much earlier than you expected, check when your application first calls `paragon.authenticate` for that user. A call on every login will create the record the first time they show up, even if they never open the Connect Portal.

## Prevention

When you read **Date Created**, treat it as "first seen by Paragon," not "first connected an integration." If you are auditing connections or billing, go to the account dropdown on the user profile, and use the billed count in the dashboard header rather than scanning list dates.

## Still having issues?

If the account dropdown date is also wrong, or the user never called authenticate that early, send support:

* The User ID from the Connected Users list
* **Date Created** as shown
* Which integration you are comparing, and when you believe it was connected
* Whether this user had any other integrations before that
